Street insurrections in Paris known as Les Trois Glorieuses (The Three Glorious Days) caused the abdication of King Charles X (27-28-29 July 1830). Louis-Philippe became the new French king. He promoted important constitutional reforms, such as the suppression of censorship and replaced catholicism as the State religion as the "religion of the majority" (religion de la majorité). Louis-Philippe was later nicknamed the "king-citizen" (le roi-citoyen).

Armand Auguste Caqué (1793-1881) later became the medallist to Napoleon.
