JAB-20 LINCOLN WITH MALICE TOWARD NONE Copper
|
25mm
10 struck by Bolen - Restrikes by Kline.
The dies were cut in 1865. It is believed the reverse die cracked and was destroyed. The obverse die was sold to Kline and has had several different owners since. It last sold in a June 2008 Heritage sale as part of lot 70070.
It is easy to tell the Bolen originals from the Kline restrikes. The Bolen pieces are 2.5-3.0 mm thick, while the restrikes are only 1.5 - 2.0 mm thick.
The Dave Bowers Copper specimen, graded NGC-67, was offered for sale by Steve Tannenbaum at the 2010 ANA convention for $900. A NGC-64 example, also from Bower's collection, sold for $546 in the January 2011 stacks sale, lot 6670. A NGC-64 example with reverse die break and struck over an E. Ivans token was sold on EBAY for $705 in March of 2011.
