JAB-10 HIGLEY COPPER FASCIMILE Brass
28mm
An unknown number were struck in Brass by Edwards.
Both dies were struck in 1864 and sold to Dr. Edwards who issued a number of restrikes. They then passed from Edwards to Cogan. They were then defaced by either Cogan or possibly Bolen himself. See JAB M/E-13 for an example struck with the defaced obverse die.

The Bolen copies have six dots on the reverse crown band, the originals have only five. On the obverse, the Bolen copies have a secret dot within the C of Pence. The circle around the deer is complete on the Bolen copy, while it is not on the original.

The Brass examples are believed to have been struck by Edwards. However, there was a Brass example in a March 1865 Woodward auction which suggests that Bolen may have struck a number in this metal before he sold the dies.

A MS-63 example was sold in a March 2009 Stacks auction for $1150, lot 3154. Steve Hayden offered a MS-63 example on his web site in the Spring of 2012 for $1250.
