JAB-09a  LIBERTY CAP DIE TRIAL  Lead
Both dies were cut in 1864.  After the three die trials were struck in lead, the rays were added to the reverse die and it was used to strike JAB-9.  The obverse die was destroyed.  The reverse die was sold to Dr. Frank Smith Edwards and eventually ended up in the ANS collection.

The example pictured was sold as lot 6595 in the January 2011 Stacks sale of the Q. David Bowers collection, where it realized $431.
