Dubois, Alphée, Concours de Tir, Obverse
Obverse: CONCOURS DE TIR (Shooting contest)

Reverse: OFFERT PAR LA SUZE (Awarded by the "Suze")

Alphée DUBOIS (1831-1905) was a second generation medallist of the Dubois “dynasty”. The patriarch of this medallist/engraver family dynasty was Joseph Eugène Dubois, who was a respected engraver of medals, jetons and coins during the late 18th and early 19th century. His son, Alphée, followed in his trade, becoming one of the most celebrated engravers of the second half of the 19th century in France. His engravings were not limited to numismatics, as his work can be seen on a number of French postal stamps as well. Alphée was most recognized for his incredible attention to detail and creating finely detailed images that oftentimes could only be appreciated under a magnifying glass. He was a true master, and his son, Henri, continued the dynasty, becoming one of the most proliferate medallists of the early 20th century.
