From the collection of John Birks

Number Issued: 849 Bronze, 100 Silver

FROM THE ARTIST

The obverse presents the woman, tender but strong, who contemplates the future of her child with faith and hope -- but also with apprehension and misgiving. She must carry on her many sacrifices resolutely, however, with a faith born of her own courage. The reverse is the symbolic story of Prometheus Bound whose contribution of light and civilization was made by his willingness to suffer and by his unfailing strength of will to resist the evil forces which sought to deter him from his purpose.
