JAB-16 WASHINGTON / SOLDIER'S FAIR Silver Plated Copper
28mm - 10 struck
Both dies were cut in 1864 and later sold to A.R. McCoy of New York. They are currently unaccounted for. Woodward struck 10 copies in Copper. Bolen states he struck two examples in "Copper", but Musante believes they were actually struck on 3mm thick Brass or Copper/Nickel planchets. The Woodward Copper restrikes are on 2.5mm thick planchets.

Copper examples of JAB-16 are extremely rare. There was an example in a five piece lot sold in a May 1992 Stacks sale. Presidential sold a silvered XF piece in December 1992. The example pictured here was sold in the Nov. 2017 and Sept. 2021 Stacks auctions. It may be the same piece sold in the Presidential sale. Other than these appearances, I have no other records of Copper JAB-16 examples being sold.
