Mule JAB M/E-11 SMALL STAR CONFEDERATION / BOLEN DIE SINKER CARD Copper

Unknown number struck by Mason or Edwards

This mule consists of the reverse of JAB-08 combined with the reverse of JAB-05. The Confederatio die was cut in 1863 and is believed to have been destroyed. The storecard die was cut in 1864 and sold to Mason, to Edwards, to Cogan, possibly to Bushnell, and finally to the Chapman's. It is currently in the ANS collection.

This piece was acquired in the January 2015 Hayden auction, lot 648, where it was described as follows: "Very rare, Musante lists just three auction records in Copper including this piece, the other two are more than 100 years ago. From the Steve Tannenbaum, John Ford and Virgil Brand (inv# 63489-8) collections, earlier from Bowers & Ruddy's October 1982 sale." Expect to pay over $2000 to add an uncirculated example to your collection, should you be fortunate enough to have one come up for sale during your lifetime.
