50 Year Anniversary of the Pony Express
By Alexander Phimister Proctor (Canadian: 1862-1950).  Proctor was commissioned by Wells Fargo in 1910 to create for them a plaque commemorating the 50th anniversary of The Pony Express.  The first plaque was presented to President Herbert Hoover in 1930.  Copies have been mounted at various points along The Pony Express route as markers.  The plaque depicts a cowboy rider on a fast horse galloping to the next relay station.  The plaque is signed lower center by Proctor under The Pony Express logo. The plaque measures approximately 16 1/4 in (41 cm) in diameter and weighs approximately 12 pounds (5.5 kg). This bronze plaque is featured in the Bergmann Bronze books, vol. 4., pp. 1184-1185, number 4759 as a plaque depicting the great historic event of The Pony Express which only lasted 15 months.
